Stan Tyrrell was well into his electrical engineering degree when a moment of clarity suddenly hit him. “I realized I didn’t want to be an engineer who sat at a desk designing stuff,” says the University of Miami grad. The realization paved the way for a dynamic career path that diverged from traditional engineering roles.
Fortunately, his first post-grad job as construction project manager for his alma mater’s medical school meant all those classes in discrete-time signals and systems didn’t go to waste. Tyrrell’s initial role allowed him to apply his academic knowledge in a practical setting.
“One of my first projects was changing out chillers and cooling towers,” Tyrrell remembers. “A sales engineer with Trane would call on me from time to time. I was intrigued by what he did for a living. He eventually introduced me to people at Trane, and I went to work for the company. Tyrrell began his journey in La Crosse, Wisconsin, where he learned the fundamentals of commercial HVAC.
Starting as a marketing engineer, Tyrrell’s ambition was clear: to shift into a sales engineer role. “I love engaging with people and solving problems,” he admits. “Sales engineering allowed me to combine my technical expertise with my desire to work with people and help solve their problems.”
Tyrrell quickly made a mark as a sales engineer in Trane’s Miami and Tampa offices. Over the next three decades, he not only climbed the ranks at Trane, but also became a respected figure in the HVAC market, sharing his expertise with several prominent industry players.
Today, Tyrell is focused on ensuring operations at Integrated Cooling Solutions run smoothly.
“I’m in a unique position at ICS,” he notes. “I spent many years on the sales and sales management side, so I bring a deep understanding of that business to our operations. Sales engineers are often in the spotlight because they’re customer facing and own the sales process, but it’s our inside sales team that delivers a best-in-class customer experience. They provide consistent, accurate, and timely proposals. They deliver the right products on time and within budget for each job. All of that helps drive our success.”
Flawless operational support is critical to the success of every project.
“Selling our products is just the beginning,” Tyrrell asserts. “Mechanical equipment can fail or be delayed. It’s our response to these challenges that sets ICS apart. Customers return to us because we proactively address issues, often solving problems before they even arise.”
Tyrrell views his responsibilities through a clear, pragmatic lens.
“My job is to remove obstacles and support our teams so we can effectively serve our manufacturers and customers. That’s what motivates me every day,” he reveals.
Together, Tyrrell and the entire ICS leadership team do their best to cultivate an enthusiastic, shared purpose among the people who matter most.
“We prioritize our employees. Even as ICS has grown and become part of Meriton, we maintain our close-knit, small-company atmosphere,” he explains. “We work hard and enjoy what we do, which creates a good balance. It’s an exciting time at ICS.”
